The Portland Trailblazers didn’t get much out of their rookies this season, but……

The Blazers didn’t get much production this season from the rookies on the team but look out next season. Center Greg Oden was the #1 pick overall in last season’s NBA Draft but he missed the entire season due to surgery on his knee. The Blazers are confident that he will be ready to return when the 2008-09 NBA season is ready to tip off. It will be like the Blazers had another very high draft pick next year as Oden will make a huge splash for the Blazers on defense and with rebounding.

Josh McRoberts was the second round pick of the Blazers and he didn’t get much playing time. He played in 8 games (0 starts) for the Blazers this season and he averaged 3.5 minutes, 1.5 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. McRoberts has a lot of players in front of him at forward so he will have to fight to even make the team next season.

The Portland Trailblazers aren’t getting much from their rookies

The Trailblazers will have to wait until next season to see Greg Oden start at center for them due to injury. Josh McRoberts hasn’t got off the bench too much thus far this season. He has played in 5 games (0 starts) so far this season and he is averaging 2.0 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game. Don’t expect much from him the rest of the season.

The rookie class of the Trailblazers has been disappointing

With center Greg Oden out for the season the Blazers likely won’t get much this season from their rookie class. Guard Taurean Green has played in 4 games this season and he’s averaging 6.0 minutes, 2.3 points, 0.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. F/C Josh McRoberts has only played in 2 games this season and he has 1 rebound. McRoberts has yet to take a shot this season.

The rookies of the Portland Trailblazers earn an A

The Trailblazers had the best haul of any team in the NBA in last June’s Draft.  Guard Brandon Roy played in 57 games and he averaged 35.3 minutes, 16.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.2 steals per game last season.  He will be a star on the level of Dwyane Wade in the near future for the Blazers.  F/C LaMarcus Aldridge played in 63 games last season and he averaged 22.1 minutes, 9.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 0.4 assists and 1.2 blocks per game.  Look for Aldridge to be a dominant player starting next season for the Blazers.  Point Guard Sergio “Spanish Chocolate” Rodriguez played in 67 games last season and he averaged 12.9 minutes, 3.7 points, 1.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.  Look for Rodriguez to be a starter soon for the Blazers as he is a marvelous passer.  The Blazers have built a foundation for their future with their outstanding draft of last season.

Rookie point guard injured

Sergio Rodriguez is going to be out for a while after severely spraining his ankle.  “Spanish Chocolate” will be missed by the Blazers because he was really steppin’ up and playing well.  Jarrett Jack will have pressure to play big minutes with Rodriguez out.
