Brandon Roy retires from the Portland Trailblazers and the NBA

Blogged under Comings & Goings, General, Bloglockers, Big Blazers News, Front Page, Injuries by admin on Friday 9 December 2011 at 8:27 pm

27-year old shooting guard Brandon Roy has decided to retire due to doctor’s advice. He has a career ending knee injury. Doctor’s said that he might not be able to walk in the future if he keeps playing basketball. Roy played in 47 games (23 starts) for the Blazers last year and he averaged 27.9 minutes, 12.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. He played in 321 games (295 starts) in his five years with the Trailblazers and he averaged 35.6 minutes, 19.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.0 steal per game. It’s a shame that Brandon Roy’s career has ended so early as he was a pretty damn good player for the Trailblazers and they are going to miss him.

UPDATE: (12/15/2011) - The Trailblazers have waived Brandon Roy via the amnesty clause. He will get paid the remainder of his contract by the Blazers, but it won’t count against the salary cap.

Brandon Roy’s career with the Portland Trailblazers is at the crossroads

26-year old shooting guard Brandon Roy is at the crossroads of his career with the Blazers. The Trailblazers are likely going to ask Roy to retire because of his chronic bad knees. But, Roy will likely reject that idea emphatically as he has a lot of money left on his contract. Roy played in only 47 games (23 starts) for the Trailblazers last year and he averaged 27.9 minutes, 12.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. Roy has now played in 321 games (295 starts) in his first five years with the Trailblazers and he is averaging 35.6 minutes, 19.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.0 steal per game. Roy isn’t going anywhere, so if the Blazers want to open up some salary cap space, they are going to have to deal someone else.

The Portland Trailblazers lose Marcus Camby indefinitely

Blogged under Bloglockers, General, Big Blazers News, Need to step up, Front Page, Injuries by alleyoop on Wednesday 19 January 2011 at 9:22 am

The Trailblazers will be without starting center Marcus Camby indefinitely as he will have surgery to repair a partial tear of the meniscus in his left knee. Camby has played in 39 games (all starts) for the Trailblazers so far this year and he is averaging 28.7 minutes, 5.9 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.9 blocked shots per game. The Blazers are really going to miss Camby because of his defense and hustle. Veteran Joel Przybilla and 2nd year man Dante Cunningham will have to pick up the slack until Camby is ready to return to action. Przybilla started late this season as he was rehabbing from surgery so the Blazers will likely be watching his minutes. Przybilla has played in 16 games (0 starts) for the Blazers so far this year and he is averaging 9.4 minutes, 1.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. Dante Cunningham will likely see the biggest bump in P.T. while Camby is out of action. Cunningham has played in 42 games (3 starts) for the Blazers so far this year and he is averaging 18.6 minutes, 4.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game.

Brandon Roy is out indefinitely for the Portland Trailblazers

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Big Blazers News, Front Page, Injuries by alleyoop on Friday 31 December 2010 at 11:19 am

The Trailblazers will be without 26-year old shooting guard Brandon Roy indefinitely due to knee problems. Roy has played in 23 games (all starts) so far this year for the Blazers and he is averaging 35.3 minutes, 16.6 points, 2.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game. Roy is only shooting 39.9% from the floor so far this year. You can tell his knees have been effecting his game as he just doesn’t have the explosiveness to the basket right now. The Blazers were right to shut him down for a while to see if some rest and relaxation help the situation. Roy has now played in 297 games (295 starts) in his first five years with the Blazers and he is averaging 36.8 minutes, 19.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.1 steals per game. The Blazers hope to have Roy back at some point this year because they are a lot better with him than without him.

UPDATE: (1/14/2011) - Brandon Roy is going to have arthroscopic knee surgery on both knees which will keep him out at least another 4-8 weeks.

The Portland Trailblazers will be without Brandon Roy for a while

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Big Blazers News, Front Page, Injuries by alleyoop on Friday 17 December 2010 at 7:28 pm

The Trailblazers will likely be without starting shooting guard Brandon Roy for the next three games due to a sore left knee. Roy has played in 23 games (all starts) for the Blazers so far this year and he is averaging 35.3 minutes, 16.6 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game. Roy is only shooting 39.9% from the floor and part of the reason is that his knees have been barking this year. The Trailblazers will likely use Wesley Matthews at shooting guard with Nicolas Batum moving back into the starting lineup at small forward until Roy is ready to return to action.
