Centers

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Tuesday 14 November 2006 at 5:23 pm

The Blazers have a good situation at center with two grizzled veterans and a first-round draft pick.  Joel Przybilla will likely be the starter because he plays great defense and is a decent rebounder.  Przybilla has averaged 4.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game over his career.

Jamaal Magloire was added over the off-season and he’s a good player.  Magloire is a tough rebounder and a good defender.  Magloire also brings a little more offense than Przybilla does.  Magloire has averaged 9.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game over his career.

LaMarcus Aldridge is the most skilled center on the roster, but he needs to get a little stronger.  He is the future of the center position for the Blazers because he’s a good offensive player and he plays hard on defense too.

Small Forwards

Darius Miles will be the started when he gets back from his knee injury.  Miles is a great open-court player that has the skills to be a much better player than he is.  Miles has averaged 10.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.2 blocks per game over his career.  He has the potential to be a much better player than he is.

Martell Webster had a decent rookie season for a player that is so young.  For a player with Webster’s athletic ability, the sky is the limit if he matures as a player.  Webster is a good three point shooter (35.7% as a rookie) that helps spread the defense out when he’s on the court.  Webster averaged 6.6 points & 2.1 rebounds in his rookie year, and those numbers will improve with experience and more playing time.

Travis Outlaw also is a very active, young player.  Outlaw has averaged 5.4 points & 2.3 rebounds per game over his two-year career.  Those numbers will improve with the increased playing time he should get this season.

Blazers can’t stop the Mavs in 103-96 loss

The Blazers just flat-out didn’t play any defense as the Mavericks hit 55.1% of their shots from the floor.  Zach Randolph had his worst game of the year and still scored 20 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.  Jarrett Jack did a good job directing the attack with 20 points, 3 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals.  Juan Dixon pitched in with 13 points off of the bench.  First round pick LeMarcus Aldridge got his first playing time of the season and he played well scoring 10 points and grabbing 8 rebounds in only 19 minutes.

The Trailblazers fell to 4-3 on the season, but they’ve looked good so far.

Young Blazers get rousing 92-91 victory over the Hornets

The Blazers were down 38-13 after the first quarter, but then they tightened up the screws on defense and shot the ball well the rest of the way to pull out a 1-point victory!  Zach Randolph had another outstanding game with 31 points & 12 rebounds.  Travis Outlaw was outstanding off of the bench with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 6 blocked shots.  Jarrett Jack played well as the leader of the attack with 13 points and 5 assists.  Jack also played outstanding on defense against Chris Paul.

This was a HUGE victory for the young Blazers.  The Blazers improve their record to 4-2 on the young season.

The Blazers scorch the Lakers 101-90

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Thursday 9 November 2006 at 11:18 am

The Blazers shot a scorching 51.5% from the floor as a team and out-rebounded the Lakers 36-28.  Those were two of the main reasons that the Blazers won this game.  Zach Randolph continued being unstoppable last night, as he scored 36 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, dished out 3 assists and stole the ball 3 times.  Jarrett Jack filled up the boxscore with 12 points, 2 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals.  Stephen Graham came off of the bench and scored 11 points.  Juan Dixon added 10 points off of the bench.  Center Jamaal Magloire had a solid game scoring 8 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

The Trailblazers have improved to 3-2 with their victory over the Lakers last night.
